Reading's Zoning Board of Appeals approved a special permit for a second-story addition at 26 Whittier Road despite a side-yard setback short of town requirements.
Zoning Board · Meeting of July 6, 2026
Reading's Zoning Board of Appeals approved a special permit for a second-story addition at 26 Whittier Road despite a side-yard setback short of town requirements. Chair Patrick Houghton read a letter from abutting neighbors Marty and Beth Leak stating "we do not object in any way" to the project, which does not expand the home's existing footprint. Petitioner John McCabe presented on behalf of the property owners, and five additional letters from Whittier Road neighbors also raised no objection.
The board also continued case 26-04 at 90 John Carver Road "for the same reasons as last time" and approved prior minutes as amended. Members confirmed Patrick Houghton now serves as chair and welcomed new associate member Frank Rizza, but deferred electing a vice chair.
