READING — The Reading Conservation Commission continued a hearing on replacing the Parker Middle School turf field after members pressed engineers on PFAS infill, buffer-zone mowing and outdated rainfall data. Activitas engineer Meg Buzinski told the panel the project's organic "Brockfill" infill carries a no-added-PFAS specification, while member Walter Talbot argued the design should use higher rainfall projections ahead of a pending NOAA Atlas 15 update, asking, "Is there any reason you didn't go to the higher of the ranges." The hearing continues September 9. The commission voted 7-0 to close a hearing and approve an order of conditions for a 178 Forest Street addition, requiring roughly 200 square feet of native plantings.
Members also voted to swap officers, electing Vice Chair Martha Moore as chair and outgoing Chair Brian Bowe as vice chair effective September. Separately, the panel agreed to split a $6,000 utility vehicle purchase with the Trails Committee and reported half of a $1,700 conservation-area sign stolen near Bare Meadow.
