Conservation · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Reading's Conservation Commission approved a riverfront redevelopment at 281 Main Street and rejected a patio expansion at 18 Knollwood Road. The commission voted 6-0 to issue an order of conditions for the mixed-use project, which peer reviewer Rich Kirby of LEC Environmental said includes 5,700 square feet of wetland mitigation against a required 5,118 square feet, plus five years of monitoring reports due each October 1. Vice Chair Martha Moore, who ran the meeting, said of the Knollwood Road patio, "I don't think we could see our way to approving an enormous patio like that," and the board voted unanimously to deny it as a minor plan change.
The commission also issued a negative determination for a deck expansion at 79 Marla Lane and heard from MBTA's Bill Doyle on a Millette Conservation Area culvert replacement requiring a yet-to-be-finalized memorandum of understanding, with LEC quoting $6,800 to resolve a separate wetland-boundary dispute at 695 Pearl Street.
